The Travers Stake Contenders Saratoga 2011

Saturday August 27th we will have the Travers 2011 Stakes which has been a tradition for 142 years in the beautiful track of Saratoga. This will be an incredible race with some of the best horses in the United States as they go head to head with the prize not only winning the Travers but being the prime candidate for the Breeders Cup as well. Here are some of the top contenders to winning this years Travers!

Shackleford-> Always a competitive horse in G1 races. Most recently a close 2nd in Haskel. Has the ablility to sustain a fast pace which showed in Preakness. There are some questions on stamina against this class of horses in the Travers.

Coil-> Owned by Bob Baffert. Has good conditioning by one of the best owners in the industry. Has done well in each race this year. Not sure if horse has the speed though, Baffer had some concerns before last workout and gate issue has not helped. Two turns has not been the horses strong suit probably will be favored so will not get much value.

Rattlesnake Bridge -> A young 3 year old that keeps getting better. Has a good come from behind style that could play a big factor in this race. The only concern is distance around 2 turns and not much pedigree backing the distance either.

Stay Thirsty-> Coming off a very solid performance in Jim Dandy and Belmont Stakes. Earned a 106 beyer in 2 turns at the Jim Dandy with racing wide so very impressive. Fast tracks have plagued this horse like in the Derby. Horse looks like the one to beat to me.

Ruler on Ice-> Finished 34d in Haskel and 1st in the Belmont Stakes. He is always in the running and blinkers have helped for sure. Going to 10 furlongs should help this horse. Problem is that Coil and Shackleford showed him up in the Haskel. Loves this distance so would play in exactas.
