Kentucky Derby 2012 ~ Top 10 Contenders
Hello horse racing handicappers! Happy Saturday to you and we are well on our way down the Kentucky Derby Trail for 2012. We still have a lot of horse racing action that will be coming up in the next weekends but there are already some horses that are hot on the trail to going and winning the Derby. If you can spot the diamond in the rough it can pay some big dividends on Derby day not to mention the ones you cash leading up to this exciting race.
Here are some of the stand out horses so far for the upcoming Kentucky Derby 2012 we will be updating this list in the weeks to come. These are not in a particular order just the top 10 currently~
1.) Bodemiester 9-2
Owned by Bob Baffert and nice speed rating in the San Felipe finishing 2nd to Creative Cause. Only one on this list with 2 triple figure beyer speeds. Finished 1st in an impressive win at the Arkansas Derby by 9 1/2 lengths with a 108 speed rating. A serious contender for sure!
2.) Union Rags 5-1
Fits the classic derby profile and the trainer has been there before as well. Finished 2nd in theĀ BC Juvenile. Had a very impressive showing in the Fountain of Youth where he won by 4 lengths. Placed 3rd in the Florida Derby 1 1/4 shy of the leader.
3.) Creative Cause 6-1
Lots of solid starts last year and finished 2nd in the BC Juvenile looks like he can improve with each race. This horse definitely has improved showing he belongs here as he finished 1st in the San Felipe. Had a wide trip and still won the race the Santa Anita Derby was just 2nd by a nose. Nice Career best beyer at 102!
4.) Alpha 15-1
With Lasix this horse has improved a lot and won the Withers 02/04 which was impressive. The Wood Memorial was just 2nd by a neck with a 98 speed rating.
5.) El Padrino 20-1
Another Pletcher horse this Trainer is loaded as usual and this horse had a nice beyer 100 in the GP Allowance. This horse looks to be born for the mud with his pedigree so if that plays a factor at all look out for him. Was 4th in the derby but if its a rainy day could be my favorite.
6.) Gemologist 8-1
He has 2 good wins at Churchill Downs and appears to love the track. Just won the Wood Memorial on 04/07 by a neck and looked to be fighting all the way. This horse has spirit and looks like he wants to be in the mix.
7.) Dullahan 10-1
This horse has stepped it up and shows he belongs in the top 10 by an impressive win in the Blue Grass Stakes against some quality horses. Coming off his best beyer ever if he can improve in the Derby you never know.
8.) Hansen 10-1
Was second in the Holy Bull but it was an extremely fast pace so if Gothem sets up nicely in Aqueduct could come in at a nice price. Put himself on the map in the Blue Grass finishing 2nd by 1 1/4. Is in the top 10 for sure!
9.) I’ll Have Another 12-1
This horse has took over the Santa Anita Derby exploding to win it by a nose against some of the best horses. The speed rating is not that impressive at career 96 but belongs here and is in my top 10.
10.) Sabercat 25-1
He has some great graded earnings so it will be interesting to see how this horse steps up in his next race. Nice win in the Delta Jackpot back in November and then went on to win in the Rebel. This horse keeps stepping it up. This is my longshot horse as he finished out of the Arkansas Derby placing 3rd. It was an impressive Bodemeister so not sure which Bodemeister we will see on Derby day!
There is still plenty of races that will be taking place on the Road to the Kentucky Derby 2012 so we know some of these horses will fall out and there will be some that come from no where going to the top. Stay tuned as we will keep you posted and make some money on the way.
