I’ll Have Another Going for Triple Crown

So we are just a few day from potentially seeing history in the making. There has only been 11 horses that have completed the triple crown which is winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont.

Previous Triple Crown Champions

Sir Barton (1919)
Gallant Fox (1930)
Omaha (1935)
War Admiral (1937)
Whirlaway (1941)
Count Fleet (1943)
Assault (1946)
Citation (1948)
Secretariat (1973)
Seattle Slew (1977)
Affirmed (1978)

The last one as you can see was Affirmed which was close to 34 years ago today. I’ll Have Another is looking to be added to that list of amazing horses going for the win at the Belmont Stakes. There are a variety of factors that make this such a tough task to handle. One big one is that fact that the races are only a few weeks apart and they are some of the best horses in the United States. So even if the horse is fast and well trained that is a lot for a horse to maintain condition putting a win up for all three races. The next biggest factor is that each race is longer.

The Kentucky Derby is 1 1/4, The Preakness is 1 3/16 mile followed by the last leg in the Belmont which is a 1 1/2. Then the last main obstacle that I think is maybe the most challenging is the new horses coming in. So you have I’ll Have Another who has won the first two races in explosive fashion going into the Belmont facing horses that have not raced in either of these big races.

So can I’ll Have Another overcome all the obstacles and pull this off? Others have tried not too long ago but could not finish the job such as Barbarro, War Emblem, Silver Charm and Thunder Gulch to name a few. If you ask this Handicapper I will tell you we will see a Triple Crown winner on June 9th. I’ll Have Another will lay back as usual and the front runners will wear themselves out then at the last second all his energy will explode in his usual fashion winning at the wire. Check out the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness races below! Happy Handicapping.
