California Chrome Kentucky Derby 2014

The Kentucky Derby is right around the corner and we will see if this will be the year of the Triple Crown. California Chrome looks to be the best horse coming into the Derby and will have a lot of horses firing after him. This horse has really proved himself in prep races at the Santa Anita Derby, San Felipe Derby and California Cup Derby winning these races with ease.

California Chrome is owned by Steven Coburn and trained by Art Sherman who are both very optimistic about his chances in the Kentucky Derby. After watching these three prep races you will definitely see why California Chrome is favored.  California Chrome does a great job at staying in the mix in a good contention spot then firing on all cylinders at the last moment with a strong kick.

The jockey that has been riding him and will be riding in the Kentucky Derby is someone that we are all familiar with Victor Espinoza. He is due for a big win in the Derby with his last win being in 2002 where he captured the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness riding the talented War Emblem.

California Chrome

In 2014 he has had three starts and won all of them making $920,000 this year so far.  The biggest race was the Santa Anita Derby where he took on a challenging field and blew them away.  If he stays in good form and looks good going into the Kentucky Derby this horse will be tough to beat. Of course we all know that anything can happen in the Derby so a good break out of the gate and keeping from getting boxed in is crucial. I love the late kick in the stretch which should allow Victor Espinoza a chance to find some racing room.
