Belmont Stakes 2012
We are just days away from the final leg of the Triple Crown the Belmont Stakes set to take place on June 9, 2012. This race of course is even more special as all eyes will be on the horse I’ll Have Another has he makes the attempt to become the first horse in nearly 34 years to win the Triple Crown. The last horse to do it was Affirmed in 1978 so this is not an easy task.
What makes the triple crown so elusive is that each race The Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont are only separated by 2 weeks and all take place in a 5 week period. This is a lot of strain on a horse and even though it looks like I’ll Have Another should win this race that is the biggest factor. Also the Belmont is the longest of the three being at 1 1/2 miles long when you add the factor of new horses entering the race some which have not raced in either of the previous two now you have a task in front of you. This race should set up nicely for I’ll Have Another as the speed demons should wear each other out and his style is to stay back and strike at the last minute.
The Belmont is actually the oldest of the Triple Crown Races with the first one going all the way back to 1866. Here is the line up for this Saturday and be sure to watch it as you might be watching history in the making.
