To have a Kentucky Derby horse is something that is very impressive no doubt. The real competition happens off the track or for some before horse racing even became a passion. The top owners have created there wealth before horse racing became a hobby/business for them. The challenge to build the biggest yacht is one demensional quest for the very wealthy. Who has the most money? Also who can make the the best investment with the money they have. At the derby these investments go head to head. A look at some of the owners of this year’s horses make one thing very clear if financial success brought championships then who bought themselves the right horse.

Owner: Heinz Steinmann owner of Mountain High Resorts in California, an empire valued at $24.2 Million

2.) Gemologist
Owner: Kenny Troutt, founder of Excel Communications. His net worth is $1.2 billion.

3.) Overdriven
Owner: Mike Repole, cofounder of Vitaminwater which he sold to Coca-Cola in 2007 for $4.1 Billion

4.) Liaison
Owner: Arnold Zetcher, former Talbots CEO (once calle dthe most overpaid in the U.S.) The retailer is valued at $222 million

5.) I’ll Have Another
Owner: Paul Redam, founder of Ditech.com, which he sold in 1999 to net $80 million.
