2013 Kentucky Derby Results and Tips
So it is Orb who takes the 2013 Kentucky Derby and begins his run towards the elusive triple crown trophy. The Kentucky Derby I feel is one of the most difficult races to handicap. On paper things can look somewhat cut and dry like most races that we handicap but there are so many factors that come into play at the derby such as:
*20 horses bumping into each other out of the gate
*previous wins being against a weaker class of horses
*the loud atmosphere and racing among the largest crowd ever
*The condition of the track which seems to be more prevalent in the past years

When you have a track as sloppy as May 4th 2013 I usually feel just about anything can happen and most of the time anything does. It was nice to see Orb the favorite play up to his role and win the Derby this year and if you somehow paired him with Golden Soul for an exacta you are smiling today.
The strategy that I have used in the past and yesterday is to go across the board and take 3 to 4 long shot horses to place. This paid $57 yesterday on Golden Soul and saved my Kentucky Derby bets. The truth is the only reason I picked him was the long shot that he was because on paper I still would not have that horse finishing second. The biggest factor yesterday being the sloppy track but then you have itsmyluckyday finishing a disappointing 15th place who seemed to be a good in mud runner.
