The 2011 Breeders Cup is only a month away and is starting to shape up with some solid horses making a go at the 5 million dollar purse. With one month left before the Breeders’ Cup, the biggest contenders are running in their final prep races today, including the Jockey Gold Cup at Belmont, the Goodwood at Santa Anita and the Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park.
The Breeders Cup Classic is ran at a distance of 1¼ miles (2012 m) on dirt, the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1 Weight for Age) is considered by many to be the biggest thoroughbred horse race in the United States; not only because of its $5 million dollar purse, but also because the winner of the Classic often goes on to take the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year. Zenyatta, winner of the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic, proved that a race that is open to male and female qualifiers 3-year-olds and up – can indeed be won by a female.
